Be sure to seek out the little stone cabin that looks like a scene from a fairytale. “It’s the coolest thing!” The family used to camp there during summer months and you can still see the outdoor kitchen.

Note that although some handicap parking is available, not all of the garden is currently wheelchair accessible. However, a major renovation scheduled to begin in August 2019 will improve that. Contact the garden for the latest updates.

While originally a rhododendron test garden, it now features many companion plants and trees, as well as a fern grotto that JJ especially likes.

“This is definitely a four-season garden,” she says. “And there are framed views everywhere — it is gorgeous.”

The old farmhouse and barns provide the perfect backdrop while visitors are encouraged to explore all the distinct display areas including an orchard, gravel garden, and the beginner’s garden featuring especially easy-to-grow varieties.

Bring a picnic to enjoy and be sure to check out their website to see what is blooming each week — JJ was astounded to view over 350 varieties flowering during her early July visit! Even in winter there is plenty to see, from fluffy seed heads to winter-blooming varieties.
