PIE Studio takes design back to nature. Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta, who founded PIE in 2005, scours the natural world for inspiration. Not only do Sribyatta’s elemental designs give a nod to the organic world, but his innovative materials — water hyacinth, liana and bamboo — are often from it. The base of the amoebalike Pearl chair is composed of strands of recyclable polyethylene. Mindful of its footprint, PIE did not use heavy machinery to produce Pearl; instead, its strands were cranked out by a small, low-voltage extrusion machine, similar to a pasta maker. projectimportexport.com
