Green Roofs

Green roofs have taken off in the past few years. Ed Snodgrass—green roof expert—suggests that gardeners considering a green roof should start with greening the topper of a doghouse or birdhouse. 

As for plant choices, Snodgrass suggests low-growing hardy sedums and other hardy succulents—with color accents coming from perennials like phlox or dianthus and small bulbs such as muscari and crocus.
