The 7th annual Jardins, Jardin show in the Tuileries, Paris, took place June 4-6 and, as usual, the French managed to stage perfect weather to go with the perfect setting -- for the preview evening the sun shone and champagne (courtesy of Laurent Perrier) flowed. Many exhibitors seemed to have been influenced by a surreal mood and an Alice-through-the-Looking-Glass effect rippled throughout the show.

Moroso is a star brand to conjure with in outdoor furniture — the work by Patricia Urquiola especially — but at Jardins, Jardin the legendary Tord Boontje popped up in the form of the Shadowy deckchair. This curlicious fantasy chair in emerald green evokes European beach furniture of the twenties but brought right up to date in sizzling colours and modern construction. Landscape designer Christophe Ponceau placed them in threes facing each other an enigmatic and atmospheric garden — look out for his work at Hotel Sezz in Saint Tropez. ruedurepos.com.
