A low growing clover is a great low maintenance ground cover that will do just fine in Zone 6. Requires no mowing and is fairly inexpensive.

Our twitter follow @julianlace suggests Periwinkle or Vinca minor/vine. (You can follow us on twitter at twitter.com/GardenDesignMag)

Vinca Minor or Variegated Vinca are great choices for zone 6 shade ...

Pachysandra 'Green Sheen' is super-shiny and evergreen. It grows pretty fast once established. Gaultheria 'Red Baron' (Wintergreen)has beautiful red color to the foliage and brillant red berries. It does need to stay pretty wet, though.

Couple more idea from our twitter followers include: euonymus coloratus (from @AlwaysBloominJ) and Dragon's Blood sedum (from @akonsen)

My vote goest to Vinca Minor or Variegated Vinca, as well. Euonymus coloratus is also very nice.
