Many Agave species are surprisingly widely adapted. Some of my favorites are A. attenuata and A. bractiosa. They struggle here in AZ because they like a little shade and our summers are just too brutal. What is absolutely essential is good drainage! If you plant them where the ground is soggy or too shady they're gonners.
